Clos de Chevigne 'Les Morats', Saint-Veran | Burgundy, France

£19.70

A beautiful combination of 100% Chardonnay fruit and oak.

The Saint-Véran appellation sits within southern Mâconnais region, at the crossroads of Burgundy and Beaujolais. It is a relatively new AOP, established in 1971.

Clos de Chevigne was founded in 1990, in the commune of Prissé, nestled at the foot of the Roche de Solutré – which, as a silhouette, appears on the label as the symbol of the domaine. Its 25 ha are of stony scree and Jurassic clay-limestone soils, perfectly suited to the finesse of Chardonnay wines. A semi-continental climate with abundant sunshine gives further richness and character.

Vineyard work is geared towards an authentic, more traditional winemaking style with hand-harvesting, direct pressing of the grapes upon arrival in a pneumatic press, settling, cold stabilization for 48 hours. Fermentation in tanks at a low temperature of 16-20°C to preserve the aromas followed by aging in tanks or barrels. The "Les Morats" cuvée is aged in oak for 8 months.

The Clos is currently undergoing organic conversion and will be fully certified starting with the 2023 vintage.
